Domestic Hot Water Cylinder

A NOEL heat buffer and a popular domestic hot water cylinder are significantly different devices. Understanding the difference helps choose the best solution for a specific installation.

Domestic hot water cylinder – characteristics

A domestic hot water cylinder is used to heat water for everyday needs such as bathing or washing dishes. It can usually receive heat from one or two sources, for example a water-jacket fireplace and a heat pump.

The purpose is to provide a stable stream of hot water and reduce boiler operation. In practice, however, many cylinders lose efficiency quickly and limit the full use of available heat sources.

Limitations of a cylinder

The construction of a standard cylinder limits heat exchange from the coils and can restrict the operation of connected sources. Stored water also cools down and may create hygiene challenges if the installation is not managed properly.

Why choose a buffer tank?

A buffer tank combines heat storage, hydraulic separation and flow-through domestic hot water preparation. It supports several sources, improves efficiency and offers more flexibility than a traditional cylinder.
