This means that about 30% of the energy produced by solar panels is used directly where it is generated.<\/p>\n<h2>What affects the level of photovoltaic self-consumption?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Installation size<\/strong> &#8211; the power of the system should match the real demand of the building.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Time of electricity use<\/strong> &#8211; homes or businesses that consume more energy during the day usually achieve better self-consumption.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HEMS energy management<\/strong> &#8211; advanced systems automatically adapt consumption to current production.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Panel orientation<\/strong> &#8211; south-facing panels peak around midday, while east-west systems may better match morning and evening use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Weather conditions<\/strong> &#8211; sunlight and seasonal conditions affect production and therefore self-consumption.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How to calculate self-consumption?<\/h2>\n<p>To calculate self-consumption, compare the energy used directly from your photovoltaic installation with the total energy produced by the installation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-consumption (%) = energy used from panels \/ total energy produced x 100<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example, if the panels produced 400 kWh in a month and 100 kWh was used directly in the building, the self-consumption level is 25%.<\/p>\n<h2>How to increase self-consumption?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Energy storage:<\/strong> Storage can help, although battery systems may involve high initial costs, limited capacity and energy losses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Electric car:<\/strong> Charging an electric vehicle during peak photovoltaic production can improve the economics of both the car and the installation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conscious energy use:<\/strong> Planning washing, cooking or other tasks during production hours increases direct use of solar energy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>253V voltage regulator:<\/strong> This can help maintain continuous photovoltaic production when grid voltage becomes too high.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heat buffers and heat storage with heaters:<\/strong> A well-insulated domestic hot water tank or heat buffer can store thermal energy for later use. The system determined how much energy should be stored for domestic hot water and how much could be sent to the grid. This optimized the use of own production, increased self-consumption and reduced the cost of buying electricity from the grid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p><span>Self-consumption in photovoltaic systems is not only a matter of savings. It is a strategic approach to managing your own energy resources.
